Where it sits in the power path
Feeder and plug-in busway that carries high current between equipment and out to the loads.
Product lines
Feeder busway
Point-to-point power between transformers, switchgear and large loads.
Plug-in busway
Outlets along the run for rising mains, production lines and data halls.
Plug-in units
Fusible and breaker units that tap power anywhere along a plug-in run.
Feeder or plug-in?
| Feeder busway | Plug-in busway | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Moves power between two pieces of equipment | Distributes power to loads along its length |
| Outlets | None | At regular intervals for plug-in units |
| Typical runs | Transformer to switchgear, switchgear to switchgear | Rising mains in towers, production lines, data halls |
| Changing loads later | Re-routing needs new sections | Add or move loads by plugging in units |

Where it is used
Data centres
From utility service to the white space, where uptime and floor space both matter.
Industrial and mining
Rugged distribution for plants, mills and mine sites across Western Canada.
Commercial and high-rise residential
Service entrance to the top floor of towers, offices and mixed-use buildings.
Questions
What should I include in a busway inquiry?
The current rating, system voltage, available fault current (the short-circuit rating required), conductor preference, a route drawing or plan with lengths, and the number of elbows, tees and plug-in units. Mark where the run connects to transformers or switchgear.
Which standards apply?
Busway in Canada is certified to CSA C22.2 No. 27. Projects in the United States use UL 857.
